Photos showing the "NOBLE DISCOVERER" lifted by the COSCO semi-submersible Heavy Lift ship "Xiang Yun Kou". The "NOBLE DISCOVERER" is being transported to South Korea for repairs before returning to service as a drillship. It was a new record lift weight for the COSCO X class vessels
Originally built by Namura Shipbuilding Co. and commissioned in 1966, the ship was originally named the "Matsushiro Maru" in 1966, "Jessica" in 1972, "Offstart" in 1974, "Discoverer 511" in 1976, "Frontier Discoverer" in 2001 and finally the NOBLE DISCOVERER in 2010. Alaska Maritime has a long and proud history working in the Seward Alaska with the NOBLE DISCOVERER throughout Alaska and other US ports.
